Hello Friend,
June marks the mid-point of the year. Kiddos finishing school, longer days, it's the time for family get togethers, picnics at the park and it's PRIDE MONTH! In a campaign, it marks the beginning of an even busier season once the primary is behind us and our laser focus is on the election in November. Even though I'm not on the primary ballot, please do remember to GET THOSE BALLOTS IN! Civic engagement is key to getting access to the levers of power. It doesn't work right unless all of our voices are involved.

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT: Growing Networks for Good

Real talk, sometimes I doubt my readiness for the campaign trail. Not because I don't have a handle on the issues and a keen eye for policy making. Nor do I question my motivation - to take the voices of the people to city hall. It actually has to do with public speaking. I am more than comfortable in dialogue and real conversations with people. But I'm not a big fan of performing behind a podium, on a stage, or with the spotlight on me (unless it's that time I was in a punk band after college....long story lol).
Public speaking up on a stage will be a huge growth edge for me over the course of the campaign because, like or not, there will be many occassions where that very thing will be expected of me.Thankfully, gathering by gathering, we are growing a movement of change makers. What that means is that when the times come when that spotlight is on me, I know there will be friends and smiling faces in the audience that will help ease any nerves. These are snapshots a few new friends I met on Saturday and our growing volunteer crew. #goodgrows
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” This Margaret Mead quote has been a beacon for me ever since I was an undergrad and I'm a big believer that each of us, doing what we are able to, can change the fabric of a neighborhood which in turn can positively impact the entire community.
