Hello Friend,
I want to see you at the parade! The Oceanside Independence Parade is happening Saturday June 28 on Coast Highway and I will be there, marching with our community through a tradition that has run through this city since 1892. It kicks off from the 101 Cafe to the Civic Center at 10 am.
The Fourth of July asks us to celebrate revolutionaries. People who looked at the world as it was and decided it could be different. People who organized, who showed up, who put their bodies and their futures on the line for something they believed in. That spirit did not die in 1776. It lives in every generation that refuses to accept that things have to stay the way they are.
It lives in the people who showed up for Juneteenth last week. It lives in the neighbors who knock on doors and make phone calls and show up to city council meetings to fight for their community. It lives in this campaign.
So yes, let's celebrate. Let's wave flags and watch floats and eat good food on Coast Highway. And let's remember what we are actually celebrating: the audacity to believe that ordinary people, working together, can build something better.
See you Saturday!

π COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT: Juneteenth in Downtown Oside
|
What a day! Our booth was busy from the start, neighbors stopping to talk, sign up, ask questions, and connect. The energy of the NSDC NAACP celebration was exactly what this community needed and we were so proud to be part of it.
We were honored to welcome Congressman Mike Levin to the booth. I always delight in the moments when our aspiring leaders get the chance to interact with our electeds because we are only temporary stewards of these roles. It is extremely important that our young folks get to see themselves alongside them to begin to feel comfortable stepping into these roles. And honestly, none of this happens without our volunteers. James, Kim, Debbie, Dino, Beth, Kade, Larry and Donna showed up and held it down all day. And special thanks to my Mister. John was up early with me to pack and set up and stayed till the end. All of you are why this works. Thank you.
The food was scrumptious, the music was fab, and the conversations reminded me exactly why we are doing this. βOside for the People!!β

π£οΈ SUMMER SERIES: We want to hear from you
|
Still time to weigh in! We're launching a Summer Series of dialogues with District 2 neighbors about the issues that matter most to our community, and I want to hear from you before we do.
These sessions will bring neighbors together with community experts, online and in person, to connect and generate real ideas we can take to city hall. I have policy plans in mind but I don't think I have all the answers. That's the point.
Sign up to get series announcements and tell us what issues you want us to take up.
