Smart Growth & Sustainability
Walkable & Bikeable Streets
Streets belong to everyone. Safe sidewalks, protected bike lanes, and crossings that work for kids, seniors, and people with disabilities mean neighbors can get where they need to go without needing a car for every trip.
01
Safe sidewalks and crossings
Every neighborhood deserves sidewalks that are continuous, well-lit, and accessible — and crossings that give pedestrians the right of way without guessing.
02
A connected bike network
Protected bike lanes and safe routes to school, work, and the coast make cycling a real choice for more residents, not just the brave few.
03
Traffic calming
Speed humps, narrower lanes, roundabouts, and better signage slow traffic and protect the people who live on our streets.
04
Transit that connects
Walkable streets work best when they connect to transit. Growth should cluster near bus and rail corridors, not sprawl beyond them.
Decisions Coming to City Hall
- Safe Routes to School: Make sure kids can walk and bike to neighborhood schools without dangerous gaps in sidewalks or crossings.
- Complete Streets policy: Every road project should include sidewalks, bike facilities, and safe crossings by default — not as an afterthought.
- College and Douglas bridges: Growth must come with road improvements that are actually delivered. We need safe egress from north of the river.
